Get a Free $25 – Expires Tomorrow (5/15)

June 14, 2008 by Lazy Man 5 Comments

Last month, I wrote about Revolution Money Exchange and how you can get $25 for two minutes of your time. The 10,000 foot view is that the company has some very important people in the banking industry trying to start-up a competitor to Paypal. Paypal has been around a long, long, time and has the power of Ebay behind it. This company realizes it’s facing an uphill battle, so they are willing to buy users with a free $25 for those willing to take those two minutes to sign up.

I signed up and I’ve used it to send a small amount of money transaction-fee free. That’s important to me since Paypal makes me pay around 3% on other transactions. Last month, at least 50 people signed up through my this referral link and made themselves a quick $25. Some people commented that they referred their significant other as well – getting $60 for the couple ($25 for each and $10 for referring someone) – that’s a decent dinner out. In total, Lazy Man and Money readers made over $1300 by me writing that post. From my perspective, I never felt happier about a post. It’s very rare that I can directly quantify the value of my writing to the readers.

The free ride ends tomorrow though. There’s no way that Revolution Money Exchange can give out that much free money forever – especially when they aren’t collecting it back from fees. Tomorrow, May 15, it looks like they’ve finally decided to end the promotion. Click here to take advantage before the opportunity is gone.

Side comical note: My wife called it Revolution Monkey Exchange last week. I’ve been having fun with her asking if she thought that they exchange monkeys and/or if we can somehow work the system to get a monkey butler.  The joke is still funny for me, but I think it’s getting a little old for her.

Alternative Income Streams – May 2008

June 14, 2008 by Lazy Man 13 Comments

It’s time once again to update my Alternative Income. For the first time in a few months, I actually made more money that the previous month.

For the first time in quite awhile, it makes sense to break out the revenue numbers vs. the net gain. My revenue jumped from $1491 to $1611 this month. However, because I bought a logo I’m in love with from Lost Spots, I have to factor in that cost. I’m choosing to amortize those costs over some months. By the way, if you are looking for a logo design and go with Lost Spots please let them know that I sent you.

Why has there been a decline in recent months? As you may or may not know, a large percentage of my alternative income is income from my websites (not just this one). A few months ago, I had sponsors and referral income from Lending Club, which has since gone to zero with their quite period. I’m making 1/3rd of what I made four months ago with Google AdSense – for reasons I haven’t entirely figured out. Those are two major impacts as they’ve been a large part of my income in the past.

What has changed this month? My readers made at least $1250 by starting accounts at Revolution Money Exchange. Some of them, like one reader who is a good friend of mine, got his free $25 for signing up and made over $100 referring his other friends. Revolution Money Exchange gave me $10 every time someone took advantage of their free $25 offer (still available) – a lot of small $10 deposits add up quickly. It confounds me that they are still able to offer this promotion. Simple math says that you can’t give away $35 to anyone willing to take the 2 minutes to sign up (that’s their claim and I found it to be true for myself) very long before you go out of business. I would be quick to act – before they realize how ridiculous the promotion is and have to cancel it.

So with declining revenue from some sources, new revenue from other sources, and the amortization of the costs of logo design, I ended up grossing $1511.80 for the month after taxes – not near where I want to be, but enough to pay most of my monthly expenses.

Get a Free $25 Today (4/15) Only (Promotion Extended)

June 14, 2008 by Lazy Man 10 Comments

It looks like the promotion is extended until May 15th.

It’s not very often that I can offer you a very easy to way to earn $25 – with little risk and about 5 minutes of time (they claim 2 minutes, but I’m often just a little slow). The other day a friend of mine let me know that a new company is planning to compete with Paypal – Revolution Money Exchange. It seems that users can exchange money with no fees – it reminds me of why I signed up for Paypal many years ago. If you open up an account from this link, they’ll start you off with $25. For full disclosure, if you decide to sign up, I’ll get $10.

It’s a run by a real bank, which is important to me if I’m going to store any significant money there. So if money transactions are free, how do they make money? Here’s a list of their fees which are largely avoidable.

I love when I can free cheap dinner for little work. The offer expires at the end of the day, so don’t be Lazy with it.
