Citi Cards Give College Students Extra Incentive to Pay on Time

December 11, 2009 by Lazy Man 1 Comment

When I was in college, I had basically one financial responsibility, make enough money for beer pizza. I was lucky enough to earn a significant scholarship and my parents used the money they had saved for tuition towards my room and board. I know not many students have it as well as I did. Much of them, like my wife, had to foot those bills on her own.

However, I’d rather not talk about myself or my wife today. I’d rather talk about my friend who ranked up a five-figure debt in college because she didn’t like the food at cafeteria and the Wing’s Express delivery man took a credit card. Her rationale was that when she got a job after school, money would be plentiful and she could pay it off. It took her a lot longer than she thought to pay that debt, but she’s learned the financial habits and is doing well enough today.

She may be doing better today though if Citi had the promotions then that they do now. From now until January 15th, 2010, The Citi® mtvUâ„¢ Platinum Select® Visa® Card for College Students and the Citi® Forward Card for College Students will give students 3,600 points for staying under their credit limit and being on time with their payment. It’s only valid if they are new cardmembers signing up through those links.

That may be a little disappointing to current card members, but I suppose that Citi has to recruit new student somehow.

Use Your Citi Card for $5 Concert Tickets to Blink 182, Nickelback, Depeche Mode

July 28, 2009 by Lazy Man 4 Comments

Since my near deadly accident last Friday , I’ve had Nickelback’s “What
if Today was Your Last Day” stuck in my head. Maybe it’s unrelated to that incident and more related to the fact that it’s played approximately 5 times an hour on any Top 40 radio station. Either way, even my trick of singing the 60’s Batman (the one with Adam West) theme song, isn’t getting it out. It might be time to pull out the heavy guns of the Banana Splits theme song.

Getting back to Nickelback, someone mentioned to me that if you a Citi Cardmember, you can get Nickelback tickets for $5. I did a little research and you can get tickets to the newly reformed Blink 182 for that price as well. I’ve been thinking about seeing Blink 182 with Weezer later this summer. I haven’t had a chance to see if that’s a $5 show, but I will look soon. It would be well worth it to see Weezer, who I’ve mentioned before – and Blink 182 would be gravy (or All The Small Things). I’m not a big fan of Depeche Mode, but for those who find them interesting it’s something to look into as I’ve heard they are a $5 show as well.

It seems the tickets are your typical lawn seats… i.e. seats that are far away from the action. However, I find that those are often the most entertaining
due to the interaction with the crowd. It also seems like Citi is partnering with LiveNation – now the concert angle makes sense. I couldn’t see Citi putting these shows on themselves.

You’ll have to rush because the deal seems to have already started, and may end at the end of August.

You can get a special access code from here – you’ll need to have a credit or debit card with Citi… or maybe you can sign up for one on the spot.
