Is It Possible to Make a Living as a Professional Gamer?

The fact that we can be paid to play video games is a concept a lot of us still have trouble wrapping our heads around. But there are plenty of people making a living playing video games, and it’s become a recognized industry and occupation.

Not everyone who can play can make a full-time income doing so. However, if you have talent, a great personality, or both, then there’s a strong possibility that you could make some money with gaming. Let’s take a look at how much you can stand to make and how to prepare yourself for a career in this field.

How Much Do Professional Gamers Make?

There are so many different variables that can affect how much you can realistically make per year as a pro gamer, so it’s hard to put one number out there. It depends on what avenue you take, your skill level, what type of gaming you do, etc. Someone who’s on a top League of Legends team will not make the same as someone who spends their days grinding on online poker cash games, so that’s something you need to take into consideration.

If your goal is to play eSports at the competitive level, it’s estimated that the average player makes around USD 60,000 per year. But since the main source of income is tournaments, there’s nothing that’s guaranteed. That’s why you may want to look at different options.

What are the Best Ways to Make Money as a Pro Gamer?

If you don’t want to play competitively or don’t think you have what it takes, there are tons of different ways that you can make money as a pro gamer. Some people will automatically think of streaming, but not everyone has what it takes to be an interesting streamer. It’s also not something that fits everyone’s personality – and it’s incredibly competitive.

You will have to get creative here. Instead of playing or making entertaining videos, you can use your expertise to provide something useful, like reviews, for instance. Setting up an affiliate blog where you review games and hardware is a great way to get into the industry and make some money.

You could even get jobs in the industry, like quality tester, for instance. Or maybe you could record tutorials for new players. There is more than one way to make a living with gaming, and you have to go with what you can realistically get into.

Affiliate marketing is a particularly great option if you’re into online gambling. You can write reviews of Canada mobile casinos, and online casinos have some of the best affiliate marketing programs you’ll find anywhere. That could be a great way to earn from your passion and get a steady income without too much effort.

Hone Your Skill

With that being said, you shouldn’t assume that you can’t become a pro-competitive player. Whatever your game is, you should constantly focus on improvement. Look for boot camps or coaching programs wherever you are. Also, check if the local community is holding free-to-play tournaments. Most major cities will have their gaming clubs where you can get some practice too, so we suggest you search those as well.

These are all things that you have to know if you want to live the dream of being a pro gamer. It’s definitely possible, but you have to know your limits and be ready to put the work in.
