Post-Holiday Savings

November 5, 2006 by Lazy Man 3 Comments

As I was doing the weekly grocery shopping, I happened across the candy aisle. There seems to be some decent savings to be had just 5 days after Halloween. I could have picked up some really good chocolates for 30-50% off, if I wasn’t trying to be more healthy.

Anytime a holiday is over, is a great time to catch some great savings. After Christmas, you can get a great deal then. I picked up an artificial Christmas tree for some 80% off last year. However, the biggest Christmas gain was some silver and gold wrapping paper and boxes that were 90% off. I gathered just about every roll and box that I could, with more than a few weddings on the docket for the next year. I’ve already gone through a few rolls.

Consumer Reports Online – A Good Value?

November 5, 2006 by Lazy Man 1 Comment

As some of you know, my fiancee and I have been having some trouble creating our wedding registry.  I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me earlier, but shouldn’t we make sure that everything we’re getting on the list is of quality?  So should we pay the $26 for an annual subscription?  I could do the $5 monthly subscription, but I get the feeling that if it’s useful, we’ll be using it throughout the year.

Has anyone gotten the online subscription?  Anyone have an opinion to the value of a subscription?

Ten Cent Double Cheeseburgers?

December 14, 2006 by Lazy Man 11 Comments

I know it’s not particularly healthy, but this tip certainly passes the Lazy Man and saving money test…

Bank of America has a program that called Keep the Change. For the first three months, they’ll put the difference between your purchase and the next round dollar into your account. That’s a little confusing, but luckily they have a chart that explains it in full detail.

To get your ten cent double cheeseburger, head to almost any McDonald’s and order it from the value menu. The charge will be $1, plus tax (5 cents in MA for instance) for a total of $1.05. When you hand over your BoA card, you’ll have a debit of $1.05 from McDonalds, but BoA will deposit $0.95 in your account leaving you with a very filling meal for just 10 cents.

Of course this works for anything on the value menu, including their really tasty sundaes.

An Expensive New Toy or Great Tool?

December 14, 2006 by Lazy Man Leave a Comment

I went and got a Magellan Roadmate 3000T (scroll down for the exact model). It was onsale for $415 via an online retailer. I have to admit that if time is money, this is going to be a very smart purchase. My sense of direction is that bad. Add in that I’m in a new area, and it might be worth twice the price.

That’s What I’ll do – Value Menu!

July 29, 2011 by Lazy Man Leave a Comment

I’ve noticed that McDonald’s is playing up it’s value menu offering. At least locally, they have radio commercials depicting a gentleman saving for a diamond ring and solving his problem by eating the value menu. I think at the end he even ditches the girl so that he can by even more double cheeseburgers, but I might just be projecting myself as the gentleman :-).

I had mentioned the McDonald’s value menu in the past. It is a good value, but remember it’s a “sometimes food”, not an “all the time food” as Morgan Spurlock showed in SuperSize Me.
