Energi Gal found some $290 tickets from San Francisco to Boston for this weekend. I have no idea if that’s good or not, but she says it is, so we’ll go with that. We had to get back to see my new nephew and her father’s 60th birthday. We also had to meet with as many of our friends as possible – all in the 48 hours. If that sounds like a lot, consider that Jack Bauer can save the United States twice in that time.
We drove to airport parking at $10 a night (3 nights). We rented a car at Budget with a military discount for $49 for the three days. Add in one tank of gas (at an un-California price of $2.25). There was a dinner and that was about it for costs. We were able to stay at my brother’s house mostly for free (we left $40 in gift cards for the hospitality).
It wasn’t really cheap, but we found ways to save money. It was well within budget, because we knew we’d have these expenses when we came out California. All in all, it was probably close to $800 for the two of us. And in the end, it was worth probably double the price to be with friends while the Patriots beat what was considered by most the best team in football.
“And in the end, it was worth probably double the price to be with friends” : Some things are just priceless. :) I think you got away cheap with coast-to-coast travel and with this kind of fun in just $800 :)
$800 for both of you to fly across the country and party for a few days is a great deal.

Overall it sounds like it was fun and a good deal. Anytime you can fly across the US for $300 is a good deal.
