He was nicknamed "Satellite" and the QB "Earth", so every play was "Earth to Satellite". My friends and I always thought he was going to hit it big, just like current 49ers LB Patrick Willis (a UM grad) who will hit it big despite the 49ers current troubles. I hear Rice did OK in the NFL. I have never heard a single bad word about Jerry Rice - great husband, father, teammate, and one of those guys who is just an all-around role model. I know that when he started to decline, and went from the Raiders to the Seahawks to the Broncos, a lot of people said it was sad. I thought it was inspiring - here is a guy so in love with football that he's going to play it til they cut him (which he did). I'm jealous you got to meet him. Good for you - you met a giant. I'm with Quotes - I can make a STRONG argument for him as the greatest single player ever.
