Top Interest Checking Account Options

Written by

I don't know anyone who can get by without a checking account. For example, my landlord will only take a check. She isn't going to take a credit card or Paypal. So I figure, might as well get a checking account that pays you interest. With current interest rates so low, the interest from a checking account isn't going to buy you that summer home on The Cape, but it better than nothing.

Nope, no interest love from checking accounts. You can only do the best you can here, but it’s best to carry your absolute bare bones budget needs here and let your excess money ride it better interest baring accounts.

Check your local credit unions. See if any of them offer Kasasa checking. IT seems like a national affiliation. There are certain conditions (like 12 debit card transactions per month, online bill pay, direct deposit, electronic statements), but they usually pay interest from 2-3% up to 15,000 or 25,000.

A local credit union is offering this. In the next city over (60 miles away) 2 or 3 credit unions offer similar programs.
