In fact, we figured that they were probably one of 2 or 3 teams that could afford him. The big thing tho, is that CC might be able to them to the playoffs, but he has never been able to produce in the post season. He is a head case. He can't stand the pressure. He can't even pitch against his hometown team in Oakland. My personal opinion is that he is wasted in the AL, he is a fairly decent batter (for a pitcher). As for the conspiracies. I think they exist. One of the Indians best players was hit on the wrist on the way to a season best grand slam record. As a fan, its hard to believe it was just an accident. I also think its true about money and championships. Most fans want a championship and don't care how the team gets there. I'm a huge Mets fan so can't say anything bad about spending, we do as well and have chocked recently. the Yankees are also in the top 3 most recognizable franchises in the world. Manchester United and Real Madrid are up there, don't remember the exact order. It's more than just a team but an international brand. Beyond the die-hards the yanks really sell an awful lot of tickets to random people on vacation, Japanese businesspeople in town and stuff that I haven't seen at other stadiums we've been to. We were season ticket holders when we lived in NYC, and often found ourselves explaining the rules to some British/Irish/French person next to us who was just there because yankee stadium is in the top 25 must-sees in the tourist guides. At leat they blew the cash they have on the best free agents in baseball (and Burnett). It could have been Lowe and Peavy or something. Can't argue with that. It's an improvement on other years. The money wasn't much different, the Boston media's fangs don't seem to be quite as sharp, and in my opinion, the BOS front office is more efficient - getting more bang for the buck - and thus probably a better shot at winning.
