Earlier this month, I said that I was exploring two new business ideas. I'd like to announce the first today. Earlier this week, I've started posting, How To Fix. I stumbled on the availability of the HowToFix.org while just doing some typical searches for cool domains. I was pretty surprised to find it available. I grabbed, put up a logo by the great Logos for Websites and found a writer to put up some content. It's my first attempt to really try to make money the Lazy way - outsourcing almost every part of it. Maybe some day I'll even write for it.
For now I'm just going to let it run advertising-free and see if I can make it a popular destination for all do-it-yourselfers.
In other news, my wife and I ran what might have been the least successful yard sale in history. It from 8AM to 2PM today. We made a grand total of zero sales during those hours. Fortunately we were about to make a sale while we setting up at 7AM and another while packing up at 2:15PM. The big problem? Our signs were too small and poorly placed. We should have listened to my mom, "Big black block letters on white board." We'll try again next week with better advertisement.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of yard sales. My preference is to donate and take the deduction.
Good idea on the FixIt site.
Without owning our homes anymore, the standard deduction is better than itemized.
Looks like you overlooked the best reason for owning a house – being able to dump your unwanted goods for cash, without having a yard sale.
Obviously, this is easily worth the cost of a mortgage.
At $1M for something under 2000 sq. ft where I live – nah, I’ll pass.

How do you make money by buying the website domain and pay virtual assistants to write? As website is still have to take off, and you said you are running ad free. I am curious? Also, how do you legally not use virtual help’s name or ownership to the article she wrote?

I just don’t find yard sales to be a productive use of time. If you look at it strictly from a ROI standpoint, the eight hours a day that you’ll spend trying to sell things that you no longer want (and probably deep down have guilt over spending too much for them in the first place) could be better invested in business building. Heck, working eight hours of an old fashioned trading-time-for-money job would net me more than I could hope to make on a yard sale. Those same eight hours invested in a business venture will multiply long term into far more.
Give the low dollar stuff to your favorite charity rummage sale and collect the karma points, and put anything of any significant value on Ebay.
Just my opinion, of course. :-)

I don’t make money from the site now… it’s in the future when I integrate advertising and affiliate links. For now, I just want people to come to the site and enjoy it.
As far as legally using the writing, that’s what ghostwriter is paid for. I obtain the rights to the work payment.

Good point about yard sales not be an effective use of time. I honestly found it very relaxing and a good way to spend some quality time with my wife and meet a few of the neighbors of our new home. Plus my wife finds the whole thing fun.

Thanks for the recommendation for Logos for Websites – I’ve been thinking of getting one and it’s nice to “know” someone who has used them. I like your new fix it website – hope to never need it though. :)
