Links: New Redesign Edition

You may have noticed that Lazy Man and Money and Lazy Man and Health have undergone a redesign recently. I have gotten some excellent feedback thus far, including my suggests on how to improve it further. I can always use more feedback, so if you have an idea, please consider sharing it with me via this web form. I hope to implement many of the subtle changes over the next week or two. In the meantime, here are a few of the changes and why I made them:

  • Narrower content area - A person who I respect quite a bit noted that my content was very wide and it gave him headaches. I had never thought about this, but this is why newspapers have their typeface in narrower columns.
  • Logo - I felt it was time to have a logo, something eye-catching for new visitors. I remembered that one of my readers and frequent commenters is a graphic artist. So I sent Amber Yount of Lost Spots an e-mail to send her some business. We worked on an idea that Plonkee contributed and the rest is history.
  • Cleaner Overall Design - I lack the artistic talent to make nicely rounded corners and things of that nature. However, I feel like everything on the site now has "it's place." You'll noticed that nearly everything fits into the overall color scheme. I hoped to address subtle details like the input buttons for subscribing or submitting a comment.
  • Social Bookmarking - I want to make it easier for people to see and make use of the great social bookmarking tools at the end of each article. If you like the article I write, I hope you will use them.
  • Behind the Scenes - I put a lot of effort into cleaning up the code and helping make sure search engines can index my content properly. This may mean nothing to the average reader, but if you run a blog you realize this can be signficant work.

With that out of the way, here are some of the stories I liked from other members of The Money Writers:

Yay, no more headaches! For real, it is a large improvement for sure. Very easy on the eyes, everything is compact and laid out nicely.

  2. Sun says:

Lazy: Your logo’s background is white, but the background of the header isn’t. So I thought it may look better if the backgrounds are the same or use a transparent background for the logo.

  3. Lazy Man says:

Thanks Sun, I have tried to fix the logo – hopefully it looks better now.

  4. Writer's Coin says:

I like the new look Lazy, it looks nice and clean and makes it feel much more professional, but not too corporate or anything.

  5. Jeremy says:

Lazy, there is some white in the logo between the letters. Also, your adsense background is still white as well, so it isn’t blending with the background.

  6. DebtDieter says:

The new looks is wonderful, congratulations! It’s a very clean, light layout.

  7. Lisa says:

I like your design. It’s very clean. I’ve decided if I start another blog, it’s going to have a simpler design/simpler color scheme.

  8. Justakrusen says:

When my blog grows up it wants to be just like yours.:) Well not just like it… It is very easy on the eyes.I like the colors a lot.

  9. Tom says:

    I like it!

I need to do something with my design. I’m just a little too lazy. :)

  10. Luc says:

I LOVE the new logo! I was going to post a comment last week when I saw it – but there was no post where it sort of “fit in”… Looks great!

  11. Tom says:

One thing I just noticed…there is no link to the comments at the end of each post. You have to scroll back up and click on the comments block or the title to get to the comments.

  12. Llama Money says:

The new logo is great – very fitting. As is the new design. Very “pro” looking – did you hammer it out yourself or contract it out?

  13. Lazy Man says:

I used another theme to start, but by the time it was done it looked nothing like that.

  14. Danny Tsang says:

Congrats on the new design. It’s very clean and very readable. I love the logo too, very clever. Keep up the good work.

  15. NCN says:
