The longer I live in the northeast I'm convinced that the weather destroys the quality of life. I've never been to SF, but I'm sure the day-to-day climate is fanfrickintastic compared to Boston. Boston is miserable for 9 months out of the year, just like NYC is miserable for 8.5 months out of the year (only by virtue of being 5 hours to the south). Weather is key.
