Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I definitely like to upgrade my lifestyle. One of the things that is nice about earning more money, is having the ability to spend it on a better internet connection, or more exciting holidays. I do try to keep the creep down, but I don't want to live like a student forever.

One the biggest problems with budgeting for creep is that's it's not exactly creep. It's often spending jerk. All of sudden you're paying more for rent or mortgage or something like that. I mean whenever I get raise I direct most of it towards savings, so I never see it, but 6 months down the road I've signed a new lease for a new apartment for 20% more....

It's not right for me anymore, but the 10/10/80 method ("give/save/spend") worked for me for a long time when it came to the spending creep. Every paycheck, I would give 10%, save 10%, and live off the other 80%. With every raise or bonus, my spending went up, but so did my giving and saving. That helped keep my spending somewhat in check.
