Hey, this was a great post. Good luck to you in 2009, I'll still be around here. I like reading your stuff. You have also given me some inspiration to get started myself blogging. Setting a schedule is definitely a good thing as it is a way to stay organized. Kudos to you for your accomplishment in 2008 and I know you will be successful in 2009!

Wow. Your plan of action for the upcoming year really is inspiring. As a newbie to the scene, it is great to see your project plan for the year ahead because it really makes me realize the true efforts need to build a successful blog. I definately will look to submit some work to u this upcoming year. Great work in 08.

I'm often too Lazy to write on other people's blogs. I have on a rare occasion done that though. It is a good way to expose yourself to a new audience - and it's why I'm allow others a spot on my blog.

I'll think about the Lazy Man '09 Expo in Vegas. That might be a little more timely in '13.

Do you do guest posts on other blogs very often? This might be a good way to get your name out to more people. I know that you link to other blogs - and they link to you - but that isn't quite as "in your face" as if an actual post appeared within the other blog.

Of course, the other blogger would want the same opportunity within your blog.

Best case scenario is that you get some crossover readers who now read both blogs.

Worst case scenario is that people jump ship from one blog to another.

Maybe a once a month sort of thing as a changeup?

Also, you could launch Lazy Man Expo '09 in Vegas :)

I use Google Analytics and Sitemeter, but for me they match within .0001% error. Some people use image beacon measurement for one and javascript for the other. In this case, they won't match because some people turn off javascript in their browser (the image beacons will still count).

I haven't looked at Wassup and don't know what advantages it might provide.

Fantastic job with planning your goals. You have definitely planned it out!

Which metric do you measure for traffic? Google Analytics doesn't match Sitemeter, which doesn't match Wassup stats. I've been keeping an average of the three right now.

Don't mess with your format too much! One of the reasons I like your blog is that it reminds me of sitting with my buddies and chatting, like you would during a game. It's just that your chats involve personal finance!

I like your low key approach (but then again, it's not my business).

Good luck with your goals!

Hey Lazy Man,

I have adopted a posting schedule (which is down at the moment due to the holidays and replaced with a goal setting series) and its really nice to see other pf bloggers with a set schedule. It provides viewers with a sense of what to expect on everyday of the week.

I have done interviews with other pf bloggers but maybe for a blog as established as yours you could interview readers that are in really interesting situations.

As for making the community funner why not try something simple like having a monthly giveaway for who comments the most/provides the most insightful comments.

Congratulations on earning $30k!

Wow, $30k a year from your websites? I am going to use that as my goal for 2009, although I have no idea how to get there.
Is that solely from blogging, or do you have other websites as well? Sorry if that's too personal a question.

I briefly tried writing on a schedule, but it didn't work for me. I found that too often I wanted to write about a different topic, write a series, or something else interfered. you may find it easier for you though - writing is different for everyone.

Good luck reaching your goals in 2009! :)

Congrats on 08 and looking forward to everything coming in 09. I think marketing wise you are doing basically what you should be doing and the quality content and recommendations from myself and others will drive traffic and subscribers naturally to your site. Keep utilizing Twitter and help out others. Marketing online is all about good karma.

great goals. i wish i could put more into my PF blog...i find that i'm not all too good at writing educational type stuff for the readers, and tend to stick to simply writing about things going on in my own life, financially. for a while i tried to write some stuff that wasn't just about my own finances, but i felt like i was just faking my way through it. i dunno. i've got a small, steady group of readers and followers, but i need to find ways to grow that are pleasing to both myself and my readers.

love your blog and can't wait to see how you implement the changes in the coming year!

Quite possibly. Remember there are a lot of blogs making that denominator very large. I might have a few more 9s than I gave myself credit for, but didn't want to get into those details.

Good idea on the interviews. I've done them for others, but haven't thought about hosting interviews here myself.

As for the other stuff, I'll try to get that in. Sports season died for me for another four months, so I probably don't have a lot there. I do like to bring everything to a focus on money because I want to stay away from a blog where the posts are "here's a cute thing that my cat did last night." So those will still say on the weekends. (And for what it's worth, they do bring in search traffic since personal finance search terms are pretty competitive).

Interesting! The green background looks fine to me.

Personally I like reading your posts about what you call "some financial thought that came into my head" and the sport stuff etc, so please don't knock that on the head entirely. It's a lot better than the bland boring content on a lot of money blogs. But I understand that those posts may not bring you the search engine traffic and what have you. I like the guest posts idea, and think you should add some interviews into the mix, whether of readers or whomever.
