I think if you technically voluntarily resigned, you wouldn’t be eligible. The rules in NY/NJ are that if your position was eliminated, you were laid off or you, specifically, were terminated, then you’re eligible. If you resigned or you were terminated and your exact specific position was filled with a new person, you might not be.

I’m sure there are different rules in California but I don’t think you’d be eligible. The contracting income would further complicate things.

That having been said, I’d look into it – if you could get back some of that money you paid into the state unemployment insurance pot, why wouldn’t you want to get THAT alternative income?

I haven’t looked into unemployment right. I’m still not sure if it’s legal. Plus I do contracting on the side, so I’m not sure if I’d qualify anyway.

Did you qualify for unemployment payments? Or did you not apply? Or are you not eligible because you resigned? I’ve always been curious about this, but I’ve never been lucky:) enough to test it out.

I’m deliberately keeping it vague. I mention most of the sources in this post, just not the exact numbers behind them. I have an investment property as well, but it’s mostly break even.

Am I the only one who’s confused about this? Is there some place where you list the sources for your “alternative” income? It sounds like it’s almost all from advertising, but I can’t tell if I’m right on that.

Or are you just deliberately keeping it vague? Sorry, I’m totally confused and if you’re sharing the info. I’d love to know more about your sources of alt. income. Since you never know when one might be something that others can do too.
