Outstanding post! For about 2 years I have been toying with alternative stream ideas as I finished up school, about a month ago I created a pf blog, today I find a better part of easch day filled with exciting money and freedom producing ideas. You are correct about the idea snowball, I am just beginning to roll down the hill. Thanks again, great site.

For example, if I work at my yoga studio instead of paying for yoga classes, I free up almost $90 a month (but I’m not actually paid for working there). Likewise, if I usher at a play instead of actually buying a ticket. Is this “income”?

That is actually one of the goals of my blog, is to take my $20K and try and find some alternative form of income other than my job. It truly is key to have something other than your 9-5 that can pay the bills.

Ironically, it is my alternative streams of income that I have been dropping lately. A part-time job that paid $10/hour fifteen years ago and $12/hour now, for example.

I do intend my alternative income to replace my primary wage income in the future, although at that point I guess it won’t be alternative anymore, will it? :)

Seriously, that’s the best way I see to wealth, short of winning the lottery or developing, late in life, a killer split-finger fastball. The trick is identifying it and generating it, but I will get there. And because if you’re reading this, you’ve already thought about it, you will too!

Actually, alternative income starts small and could eventually replace your real income at a certain point. Its ability to grow over time is often related to the fact that the alternative income will be born from on of your passion. When you are self driven from something, there is no limit in what you can achieve!

I read that someone bought a few thousand dollars worth of GE in 1950. Today his heirs get 100 times that amount every year in the form of dividends!

sow the seeds for passive income and in 20 years, we’ll be sitting the shade of our dividend-bearing money trees!

Alternative income used to be called Patchwork Income – get it from wherever possible. It’s like picking up pennies, sooner or later you’ll have a dollar. It all counts.
