A Public Declaration to Become More Organized

Brip Blap has laid down a challenge... "What one goal have you always had privately that you would be willing to commit to publicly - right now? Post it and give a public commitment to stick to it!" Unfortunately, I have a way of putting a lot of goals out publicly, so trying to find a new private one is difficult. Even worse is sticking to the goal. I could list quite a few that I haven't fallen through with in just the last year. Despite that disappointment I'm doing better than I thought on my most important goals and that is what I continue to focus on.

However, I would like to add one new goal. I'd like to be more organized. I've got a black tie event coming up soon and after spending three hours looking, I've decided that my cuff links are only going to present themselves after the event. This has made me quite unhappy as I've not only wasted time, but now I'm going to have to waste money. In the past, I've said that we are trying to live small, but we are not there yet. I need to get better at throwing my old stuff out, or at least organizing it better.

This is a great goal! I think I could also be a little more organized. I’ve been pretty good since I moved into my new apartment. I cleaned out my possessions while packing, and then again while unpacking. Since I moved only a few months ago, I can still remember where I placed most things…

I love this! I just bought “Getting Things Done,” the organization system that all those young whippersnapper tech-types are using. I hereby publicly declare that I am going to get organized and get things done!

    Go Lazy Man!

Yeah, I’m really not very organized myself. I end up wasting alot of money because of that. I don’t think i’ll ever become more structured so I try to concentrate my time making things as simple as possible so less structure is needed.

Have you heard of the flylady?

She can help even the hopeless to get organized!

  5. Brip Blap says:

Hey, I think that’s a good one. Everyone can be more organized, no matter how organized they are. I need to be much, much more organized.

I hate to say I have been there on the cufflinks until my wife bought (and I am horribly embarrassed to admit this) a cufflink holder. I thought it was a waste of money, but in all fairness I have not misplaced my cufflinks once since then, and in fact started wearing cufflink shirts sometimes…

  6. I used to be terribly unorganized, but then one semested I decided that I didn’t want to be cramming in all of my projects in during the last few weeks of the semester. I started a to-do list, added new tasks to it as they came in, and always just did a few things on the list every day, it seems to work out well.

Great goal! At one time in my life, I was really unorganized. I started to read a few websites online on how to organize a little bit better and that has helped me a ton.

It’s like anything though, once you get into the rhythm of things, it will just become a habit :)

    Good luck!

  8. Xias says:

I have some trouble keeping things organized as well, great goal to have!

  9. Ryan says:

I learnt off the Oprah show that in order to be more organised you need to have a place for everything and put everything in it’s place.
Also a great tip is to only have your like 90% full of stuff. That way you can attract another 10% and you can grow and grow (and become more wealthy)

My only goal is not to make any goals I know I won’t keep (mostly anything that would really be a wortwhile goal – like getting organized)

    Doh.
