Thank You and Happy New Year!
I’ve been keeping it a little secret, but I’ve had a personal milestone for a week now. Last week, I noticed that I was on pace for 10,000 visitors before the new year. On 12/30 around midnight, I had my 10,000th visitor.
I want to thank you all for coming, and I hope you’ve like what you’ve read. Have a happy New Year! -
Throw Away your Television?
One of my new favorite sites is Getting Rich Slowly. Recently they had guest post about how you can save a bundle by throwing away your TV. In it they mention a few benefits to a TV-free life. Playing devil’s advocate, here’s a pile of rebuttals to every claim made.
1 - “There are obvious benefits to personal growth (better self-esteem, more time for family and friends, etc).”
Rebuttal - I think the self-esteem depends on what you watch. Whenever I catch a Rocky re-run, I feel I can do anything. As for spending more time with […] -
Personal Finance Blogging Pet Peeves #1 (or the 10% compounding myth)
I’m starting a series of pet peeves that I find in almost all personal finance blogs. One of the most amazing things you’ll read is how some small amount of money compounds at 10% over 30-40 years to some huge number. Here are just a couple of examples from some blogs that I respect quite a bit (they are both truly great writers).

How Much is a Blog Worth?

Business Opportunities says my blog is currently worth $35,001.48. If anyone wants to make an offer, I be can be reached via e-mail at lazymanandmoney [at] gmail (dot) com.
Linkworth implies that I could earn $500-$600 a month by adding 10 links at $50-60 a piece.
Text Link Ads’ Blog Juice gives me a 3.0 rating, while their ad calculator says I can earn $160 a month.
SeoMoz provides a measure of page strength.
Lastly, a very common (and somewhat controversial) way […] -
Planning and Goal Setting Week: Lazy Man’s 2007 Goals
Almost like a great high school guidance councilor Flexo has laid down the gauntlet to define my 2007 goals. I had been planning them in the back of my head, but it’s about I put those thoughts into electrons for all to read. You will see some similarities to Jim’s Blueprint for Financial Prosperity goals.
Max out both mine and my fiancée’s retirement plans. This includes her thrift savings plan and Roth IRA as well as my own 401k and Roth IRAs.
Look into Coverdell’s and 529 savings plans. While Energi Gal and I do not have children […]
